The Strange Case of the October 30, 2004 Bin Laden Tape and the presidential election.

In doing some research lately, I came across a rather interesting find. In October of 2004, right before the presidential elections, Osama Bin Laden released a tape to Aljazeera.

FOX news, and other right wingers, used it as a weapon against Kerry, almost as soon as it was released.

In a discussion with former Dole campaign adviser David Johnson and Hannity and Colmes co-host Alan Colmes at 4:13 p.m. ET today (October 29, 2004) on Your World w/Neil Cavuto, before the new Osama bin Laden tape was even transcribed, the suggestion that bin Laden endorsed John Kerry was already floating out of Fox News.

Early in the discussion Johnson said, "This almost looks like an endorsement by Osama bin Laden for John Kerry."

Minutes later, speaking to Alan Colmes, Cavuto said "People might look at this and say, hey, this knucklehead's still out there, he's still a threat, but if he's doing this to get the American people against Bush, that's..." Colmes interrupted: "I don't think he's there in his cave, with a Kerry/Edwards sticker in the cave. I don't think that's what's happening..." Cavuto interrupted Colmes: "Well, he's all but doing that isn't he?"

And later, addressing Johnson, Cavuto asked: "This isn't a Kerry endorsement tape?" Johnson replied, "No it isn't yet, not unless he pops up with that Kerry/Edwards sticker. Then we could say it's an endorsement."

That same right wing audience also claims that the "liberal left wing media" is driving the country towards ruin. So let's take a look at the transcript of that tape, as provided by the "Commie News Network" , shall we ?

Here it is:

If you want to try an interesting experiment, open both up in small separate windows and compare them.

There are obvious differences due to two translators at work, and that's to be expected and normal. There's nothing sinister there about that.

What's very strange however, is that some sections are in fact missing totally. There is a very clear editing going on, just days before the November election, by that "left wing liberal media" that wants to get Bush so badly, and wants Kerry to win.

Here's what's been left out in the CNN version :

As for the size of the economic deficit, it has reached record astronomical numbers estimated to total more than a trillion dollars.

And even more dangerous and bitter for America is that the mujahidin recently forced Bush to resort to emergency funds to continue the fight in Afghanistan and Iraq, which is evidence of the success of the bleed-until-bankruptcy plan - with Allah's permission.

It is true that this shows that al-Qaida has gained, but on the other hand, it shows that the Bush administration has also gained, something of which anyone who looks at the size of the contracts acquired by the shady Bush administration-linked mega-corporations, like Halliburton and its kind, will be convinced. And it all shows that the real loser is ... you.

And...

So we are continuing this policy in bleeding America to the point of bankruptcy. Allah willing, and nothing is too great for Allah.

That being said, those who say that al-Qaida has won against the administration in the White House or that the administration has lost in this war have not been precise, because when one scrutinises the results, one cannot say that al-Qaida is the sole factor in achieving those spectacular gains.

Rather, the policy of the White House that demands the opening of war fronts to keep busy their various corporations - whether they be working in the field of arms or oil or reconstruction - has helped al-Qaida to achieve these enormous results.

And so it has appeared to some analysts and diplomats that the White House and us are playing as one team towards the economic goals of the United States, even if the intentions differ.

A rather interesting ommission, don't you think ?
